    Default Bankcard woes

Okay, I know my bankcard is pretty worn out (even though I'm not due a replacement until 2011). It has been rejected in eftpos terminals for the last few days. My question is will a money machine (ATM) keep my card if I try to take money out and it can't read it?

I had the same problem with mine. Put it in the ATM and it just said something like 'unable to read card' or 'unsupported card type' and spat it back out.

Go to your bank and get a replacement - easy enough and then the problems fixed.

Thanks guys. @Wainui, I would but I live rurally and work nights, which makes it a wee bit harder

If it's an EFT POS card, isn't there an 0800 number on it?

With the BNZ you ring up explain that the card is worn out, they get you to enter your PIN and you get sent another card with the pin already registered on it.

westpac replaces damages cards for free...

ring them up and ask for a new one - and ask them to transfer pin from old card to new card...

Slight correction. Depending on who you get at Westpac. you may get it for free.

For instance, a couple of years back, I tried to get my card replaced. First time up was a just over middle aged woman. Wanted $5.00.

I thought "stuff that", and went back the next day. Got a lovely looking twenty something bird, replaced it for free.

Enter your pin over the phone? That's quite dangerous!

Nah, just make sure the sharp end is facing away from you at all times. I Suppose they have some safe pin cushion at the bank end of the phone line.
