    Smile Recommend me a laptop

    Hi all,

Friend of mine is looking for a laptop at the moment - needs to meet these....

-cost <$2000 (no more than $2200)
    -at least 3GB RAM
    -at least 250GB Hard disk
    -15.X" screen
-not Intel integrated graphics (not fussed between ATI and Nvidia)
    -1 or 2 year warranty
-he'd like it to stand out a bit against other laptops (ie maybe a coloured lid/palm rest or something)
    -backlit keyboard (preferably)

    Any ideas????

Well that'll be tricky since most laptops have onboard video. Otherwise laptops wouldnt have screens. And wouldnt be portable

    Here's an ASUS

With 4 gb and 320 gb hdd, and HDMI. The screen maybe a bit smaller though

    BUT its Intel

Or this but its only 2 GB - ATI

    Or this - Nvidia

I doubt you'll get a backlit KB for that price.

    Here are some good options:

And don't worry about RAM. Look at the CPU and GFX card. RAM can be upgraded easily and cheaply

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Blam, does upgrading the RAM (ie opening the case) void the warranty?

Dell's Studio line seems to have everything he wants.... what are Dell's like compared to Asus/Toshiba quality wise?

You shouldnt have to open the case. Just open up one of the back slots, install it thats it

That's what I meant Speedy - open a slot, not the case..... will that void the warranty? Hope not

I dont think so. If you weren't meant to open it, they should have glued it or something Or it wouldnt exist at all. If you're not allowed to do it, who would??

You would probably have to take it into a shop and pay someone to do it, which would take less than 1-2 mins. And probably get charged $20 for it

I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Neither does upgrading the hard drive.

On some laptops its under the laptop BTW
