    Default Hotmail on XP Home/Outlook Express.

    Tried to set up my wife's Hotmail, with Outlook Express, on our XP Home computer and got the following error message:- Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Alice's Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Service Unavailable', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 804, Socket Error: 87, Error Number: 0x800CCCF0
    I set up mine and work straight off. Any ideas? Thanks, Ian.

    * Incoming Port: 995
    * SSL Encryption: yes
    * Outgoing Server: smtp.live.com
    * Outgoing port: 25
    * Authentication: yes
    * TLS Or SSL: yes

    Outlook Express does not show any of these settings. It is set the same as my Hotmail and, as I said, mine works...

    If your hotmail account is pretty old, thats probably why it works.

    If it was a recent hotmail account, if you tried to add an hotmail account into OE, it wouldnt let you. It would bring up errors (unless you paid for it)

    Altho, I think this changed recently

    Which could be why yours is different, from what Blam posted

    I think that you are correct, Speedy. I've had mine, for a long time, wifes one was about 3 years ago. I accessed the accout, from their website, no I get a different message, so problem solved. Thanks all.
    Could not connect to Hotmail as xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com.

    Hotmail no longer allows email access via Outlook Express for free email accounts.

    Please visit http://www.hotmail.com/oe to learn more.

    Get a Gmail account, its free, and it'll let you add it in OE / whatever email client

    Add it as a IMAP server. Then you'll see the folders in OE (the same folders, that are on the Gmail site)

    Or add it as a pop server, sign up to Gmail, and forward the Gmail email to your ISP's / normal email addy (in prefs on the Gmail site).

    That way, if you get email through Gmail, it'll go to your normal email addy

    The only thing with Gmail is, it can be fussy with exe files (it can delete them), if it think its a virus or something.

    So, you may have to have to change the exe extension, to something else (like txt). The other person at the other end, will have to rename it.

    Windows Live mail has a horrible interface
    Intel Core i5-3470 CPU
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    1TB HDD
    AMD Radeon HD 6870 graphics card
    Enermax Tomahawk II 500W PSU
    Antec 300 case
    Win7 Pro (Action Pack :D)

    surprisingly quick even without an SSD
