Default In these financially trying times.....

    ...what are you doing differently?

No doubt about it these are financially trying times for some people. Are you doing anything differently or has it not hit home yet?

I presume some posters here wouldn't have felt a recession before (or depression depending on your viewpoint) - does it mean anything to you?

For those of us who have seen this sort of thing before, is there anything you are actively doing? Or are you purposely not doing anything differently?

If you'd like to partake in a positive way, tell us about your experiences, expectations and plans for these times.....I'm not interested in any political viewpoints or finger-pointing, just looking for people's experiences etc.

    Cheers
    Andrew

    Moved shop to home.

And we get a boarder today.
Well thats mainly cause someone asked us - he's here to work on the Fonterra expansion.
Might work out, might not, we'll see.
    He's an hour late already...........

I had nothing before and I stlll have most of it left.

To be more serious I am planting food. I learnt to cook some time back.

Never had a credit card and I have no plans to get one.

Personally it is back to revising a budget when circumstances change.

I have no idea how people can buy a house with a very large mortgage. My last house had a $20,000 mortgage when I bought it.

Income on a budget may include "expected income" for example.
Then a person may fail to include what happens if the company sacks you or goes out of business.

There have been times where I lost my "expected income" and revised the budget according to what I now expect.

As I do not have any fortune telling abilities I am unable to see into the future.

My opinion is that you do the best you can for you and family or whanua or iwi or whatever.

Same here, never had one, dont intend to get one either

I've got what I wanted (when I used to work).

Got nothing hanging over my head, no mortgage, never had / owned a car, (why get one, the bus stop is outside, if I want to go wherever), not married, no kids, no house. Only a few bills

I do. Its not the card thats the problem, its having it in debt.
Mine is used for those online things you can't do with Internet banking, and I pay the money onto the card first, then use it.

My income is salary based so I have not been affected by commission or sales based. So I have been doing the same stuff.

I have noticed my savings accounts the interest has very much dropped off by half I think, so less income in that regard however I got a new job and resigned from the old job and got a higher paying one. Not really a payrise but cos that type of job pays more.

I don't have a mortgage or loans apart from the student loan which I may min payments straight off my PAYE. I bought a car in Dec I think, which I paid with cash (Turners). My first car ever since learning to drive in 1995/96. I still don't use it much, take the bus, got it for a Xmas trip away, these days I use it, maybe once a month just to keep it current. I bus to work each day. Have never driven to work ever.

With the low exchange rate, I have stopped buying stuff from abroad and will travel to cheaper places, ie., not Europe. I may have to defer my medium / large format camera that I wanted to get into. I also wanted a fisheye and a macro lens that may need to wait to plus other bits and pieces like a lighter travel friendly tripod. Perhaps I will replace some eBay purchases with Trademe.

Usually anyway, I have a expectant expenditure that is I spend what I ought to do and the rest I save it. I don't eat out often. I have a credit card to get the airpoints but pay it off fully each month. I am still using my 2nd hand bought Nokia 6230 cellphone, no Mp3 walkman, no PDA. I track my ingoings and outgoings via a spreadsheet for some years now (done monthly). If I wanted to see the last 5 years of bus expenditure I can or how much I spent on std stuff like eat out, go out, or even admin fees.
