Have a look here http://en.openocr.org/ for the open version of Cuneiform.
I've just installed it and it worked well on the sample I gave it. I normally use FineReader, another Russian OCR
Cheers, I just tried a few, none were great, though would have been fine if the pages were just text.
The amount of work required to reformat everything,add the missing bits, and fix the mistakes means I'm better off just starting from scratch.

hmmmm....I have the full suite of Office 2007 on my laptop, suppose I should have checked it out first.

I'm just going to recreate all the documents, The idea was was scan them into digital format for the purpose of rewriting them anyway.
In fact, I sat down to start an hour ago and haven't yet even opened any other program apart from Firefox.....

Copy and paste is usually better than scan and OCR.
