a 4850 is prob overkill if WOW is the only game he's going to play.

And a quad core isn't a good idea either, it doesn't seem like you'll run many apps that'll take advantage of all 4 cores.

IMO you should go intel instead of AMD.
It probably won't make any difference but I just like intel better.

A C2D 2.4ghz with an Asus Pq5 mobo will provide plent of room for upgrades.
Not worth thinking about i7 compatibility if you're not a hardcore gamer.

A 620w Corsair PSU would prob be sufficient but something bigger would mean more room for upgrades.

Case: Any case really, you're a hard core gamer or anything.
Post here what you have in mind and we'll determine if its OK or not.

Get it built from Computer Lounge, they've got great warranties, best service and nice prices.

BTW whatever computer you get, make sure you get a Seagate HDD.
    Reliability reasons

    Have a look at these:

The only other games I play are Second Life occasionally and popcap dinky games.

My previous machine has 2Ghz processor, 2gig ram, nvidia card etc from 2005 so a step up from that would be nice.
    Set budget is vital IMO.

Your current machine should be fine for all of those things. But if you want to get rid of some cash then go for it.

I'd probably aim for $1000-$1500 if that's all you're looking at. You'll probably be overpowered even then.

Budget about $2000, max would be $3000. I want something that is going to last a few years and keep up with what I want (just incase I do change games).

I'm going to pop into both Playtech and Computer Lounge this weekend and talk to the staff and try and work out what I want/need.

Many thanks for the replies to give me these two places I wasn't sure where to start.

ZapperBoy10647 - I play Horde (boomkin called Luminox) on the Rexxar server, alliance sucks
