Unhappy Notebook Mega Test in October's Magazine

I'm in the market for a new laptop running Vista Business or Home Premium, with a C2D processor, 200GB+ disk, bluetooth, and 802.11n, for fairly general use. It seemed to be good timing that the October issue of NZ PC World - which I subscribe to - has a "mega" review of 10 notebook computers.
But now that I've read the article, and done a small amount of research, I'm a little disappointed. My first concern is that of the 10 notebooks reviewed, 3 manufacturers; Sony, Toshiba and NEC contributed 2 computers each, with HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Hasee(!!) contributing one each. Acer and Asus - among others - are noticeably missing. Why?
Secondly, one of the editors choice winners, the Sony Vaio VGN-CS13GQ, hasn't even been announced yet, and apparently won't be available until November. Should it have been included?
Am I being too hard on PC World, or just naive? Can anyone comment on the goodness of the HP Pavilion dv6000 series of laptops?

I would look for an Asus or Toshiba machine that suits your needs - then google reviews for it (using it's model number).

    Don't buy Acer.

Mega tests are all very well, but megger tests will sort the players from the aspirant

Just today heard a story of a chap who somehow managed to drop his running Toshiba laptop out of the window of his moving van, onto a gravel road.

    Still works.

I don't like the DV6000 series. Too flimsy, touch sensitive buttons that break prematurely, chassis build quality is average.

That's something I really like about Asus and especially Toshiba, is they are nice and solid and don't have silly little touch sensitive buttons and switches. They are very solid.

    Hey kids.

When I sent out the call for review units I asked each vendor to submit two units...one in each category. Some managed this, others didn't (for reasons known only to them).

According to Sony, the CS13 is available from October 13.

As for Acer and ASUS, both vendors promised to send me review units and despite numerous reminders from me, neither managed to get anything in. So they missed out

    Doh!

Better yet, as soon as you get the laptop, format the hard drive and shred the recovery CD or delete the recovery partition. Borrow a Vista disc if you have to.

Thanks for that Scott. Any chance those details could be included in the test, I have some vague recollection that they used to be.
And thanks to everyone who posted, I haven't bought a laptop yet, but I'm now leaning towards an Asus Z53se.
