    Question Memory upgrade

    Hi Guys

Seeing memory is so cheap I thought I would upgrade my current machine. The motherboard is an Asus P5WD2 Premium. The memory presently is 2 x 512MB. Appears to be Samsung DDR2 - 533, with memory timings of 5-4-4-11.

Have gone to both the Corsair and Crucial web sites but I am somewhat overwhelmed by the mass of information and options presented.

    1. Would it be best to dump the current memory and replace it with DDR2 -800?

    2. Would it be sensible to install a 4GB kit?

    3. Should I install CL4, CL5 or something else?

    4. I have seen recommendations elsewhere that for longevity stick with 1.8/1.9V rather than 2.1V. Is that sound advice?

    5. Any preferences - Corsair/Crucial/Other?

    6. I was looking at the Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - is that a good option? Not sure if it is the same as the one listed on the Ascent site for $180 (XMS2 DHX, TWIN2X4096-6400DHX).

All advice welcome. I feel a bit out of my depth here. Thanks in advance.

    Michael

Thanks for your message Trev, however, I have already done that. The page has 26 different options. My questions were aimed at trying to establish the 'best' option for me. Any advice?

Your motherboard Asus P5WD2 Premium native memory speed is DDR2 800.

The Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 would work fine, though 4Gb?, a bit overkill, the XMS2 DHX, TWIN2X4096-6400DHX is faster though unless you are benchmarking or require the last few FPS gaming, not necessary.

I would get a 2GB kit and find a new home for the old RAM....
