Default Ever so quick question - SATA/SATA2 compatibility

I just want to be 100% sure; I'm adding a second HDD to my computer but I'm not sure whether the SATA ports on my motherboard are for 1.5Gbit/s or 3Gbit/s.

I'm not certain whether my current HDD is SATA or SATA 2 (although the manufacturers' website says its interface is 3 Gb/s - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=83) but the one I intend to buy is definitely SATA 2.

Even if the ports on the motherboard aren't SATA2, will it be fine to use this second hard drive? Are they backwards compatible?

    Thanks a lot!

SATA 2 hdds have a jumper or switch to switch to SATA 1 /150.

It should work but wont be at SATA 2 speed

Whats the brand/model of the mobo?? Do you know?

    Perhaps this will clarify

(your mobo is definitely Sata 1, quote from your mobo page).
Serial ATA with RAID 0,1 function
Serial ATA is the revolutionary ATA interface that provides scalable performance for IDE device. With up to 150MB/s data transfer rate, Serial ATA is faster than current Parallel ATA and delivers superior input/output performance.
