    Question New Car engine

    How long would it take for a professional to replace an entire car engine with a new one? more than 5 days? And are there places in Auckland where you can buy a new engine?

    Do you mean a new engine or a reconditioned engine.

    depending on the car...

    I would say a good 8-10 hours min.
    in a real world workshop I would expect two or three days.

    We used to swap HQ Holden engines for a dealer in around 3-4 hours - total time. Mind you, we used to do a lot. They were the old NZ Govt cars that were purchased at auction. Matching good motor to good body.

    Exactly- a bit of info would be good:
    -make, model and year of car;
    -specification- 2wd or 4wd, turbo charged, etc;
    -situation (whether you are considering getting it done or it is being done and you want to know everything is okay/ you're not getting screwed)

    As for state of engine, assuming second hand or reconditioned- I went to Blairs engine imports (Christchurch I think? They ship to anywhere in the country) a few years back for a second hand engine- it worked fine, and it had a 90 day warranty.

    I would give it 5 days before getting concerned. Automotive workshops are busy places, and often little unforeseen things can slow work down, especially on a major job such as an engine transplant.

    Thumbs up Re: New Car engine

    Back in the 70's we had a VW that we could rip the motor out of in under 10 min. Looking under the bonnet of most modern cars, I would still be scratching my head wondering where to start three days later.....
    So the answer is - it depends on the cars colour
