    Default Vista and Sound

Hi Folks. Running Vista SP1 with 2 GB ram. Long story about problems with SP1 installation, resulting in new start, loading Vista again and then SP1 successfully.
However, now seem to have no sound from any source other than basic startup type stuff. No CD's, no nothing.
Tried all I can think of.... anyone our there who can walk me through a basic routine for finding/reactivating my sound. The default is set with Realtek digital output. Thanks.....

hey if you know the model of your sound card try downloading drivers...
i have had the same problem in the past and have had to download a bunch of drivers....

so just give me the model of your sound card ill research it and get a link for the driver. You also need to tell me what kind of operating system you're on. Vista or Xp. Thanks

With Vista you should just be able to delete the sound devices from the device manager, reboot and vista should detect and reinstall for you.

Or grab the drivers below and apply.

Do you have integrated sound? Have you installed motherboard drivers (what motherboard do you have?)?
When you say sound default is digital, do you have a digital output at the back of the computer and do you have an amplifier connected to this? If not, do so, or change your output to analogue, and see if that works.
I assume by "basic startup stuff" you are getting only the beep/s from the motherboard.

you probably need to reinstall your sound drivers, you say you have realtek so just download the latest drivers from realtek (make sure you get AC'97 or HD Audio depending on your chip)

Otherwise post your motherboard make and model and I can link you the appropriate drivers...

Thank you folks for your welcome advice. Drivers were all up to date, so I tried Rob99's suggestion to delete and let Vista start again. It worked immediately for the rear outlets and after trying varioius alternative options with the playback and recording devices I suddenly found that Windows Media Player was in control and that everything except a few .wav files ran sweet on both back and front outlets. I downloaded the free WavePad program which simply converted the .wav files to .mp3. I lack technical skills and it is really nice when something works out. Once again - help appreciated.
