    Default music composer software

I'm after some music composer software - not stuff where I just mix different tracks together, more something where I can actually compose music using different instruments (piano, trumpet etc.) through the software, and then save it as audio...

there used to be stuff available back in the DOS days, but I don't recall seeing anything that good recently.

I'm after decent software preferably with a trial or demo available to take a look at, not too interested in freeware/shareware stuff unless its very good

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Any suggestions?

    Mike.

Try Fruity Loops Studio at the cheaper end or possibly Pro Tools from Digi design at the top end

Not sure if Adobe Audition or Sound Booth can be used to compose music.

The other obvious option is Garage Band on ***

Whats the diff, between shareware or a trial/demo?

Both run out, / or have limitations, if you dont pay for it.

Octamed lets you add samples and play music.

    Its a full trial.

I think it can save whatever. I havent used it for yonks (since it came out for Amigas.)

Adobe Audition will probably be better. But, I think thats mostly for tracks

Cubase would be the other option that I left out.

Not only for guitar, but many instruments. It used to only play midi though - could have changed.

I was thinking more of the old kind of shareware where you get a full copy of something for like 30 days and after that it'd cost $29.95 to register it

Thanks guys I'll have a look at those.

    Cheers,
    Mike.

Sibelius is pretty expensive, about $1300 NZ to by. You can D/L it to try for I think 30 days after which you have to purchase a reg. key.

A great tool that I've come across for music notation is finale notepad which may be adequate for your needs. This is a free download.
