    Default overheating laptop

Ok its a work lappie, a HP, its 2-3 months old? and in the first week( not certain here) the boss was using it, and it froze i guess.... and she couldnt do anything, so she shut it up and put in the lappie bag........... i found it. too hot to touch and rescued it. she nearly cooked it......... warranties dont cover that sort of thing.

yesterday it shut down again, but she was using it on top of another lappie which was on and closed... we beleive it is over heating and shuts down.

    How can we prove this?

And without standing on toes teach the other person what is suitable laptop use, like do not put in a bag while on? do not use on another lappie while both are going? and anything else suitable?

If they start to get hot generally the fans kick into high gear and start making whining noises.

I had one in for repair like that, it was fine for me - I had it on a desk, rang the guy in the end and found he was putting it on his bed.
With soft squashy fluffly covers. So its vents were getting blocked.

I had to clean lots and lots of spy ware out of it too - I won't tell you what he had been doing with it, I told him how to clean the screen too.

It had gross spotty bits all over it.

    Hi Beetle

The user needs to get some airflow underneath the laptop. Often laptops have small feet on the rear corners that you can flip down to raise the rear of the laptop off the desk (just like the keyboard feet). If not, then prop up the rear with a couple of pens, or in fact anything (other than another laptop or something that stops the airflow) just to allow the air to move from underneath the laptop. I used to have the exact same problems with an old Toshiba when working in an office without aircon at Whangarei Hospital over summer - this almost always solved the problem.

P.S. As you know, if it is too hot then the boss shouldn't shut the laptop or put it in the bag!!!!
