access point ignoring me

I can't seem to connect to this BenQ AWL-500 AP with my notebook (Intel 2200BG)

I've tried using both XP's wireless manager and intel's one
XP's one suggests that I'm out of range even when I'm next to the AP
if I do a manual setup it'll try to connect, but fails (with no error message)

Intel's ask me for the WEP key, I type it in but still doesn't work

weird thing is that if I enter the incorrect WEP key
I still get the same response
and I've noticed that when I try to connect the AP doesn't even blink or indicate that there is some wireless activity going on

with intel's manual troubleshooting thing, the test fails on association
so... it seems my notebook can see the AP but AP not responding at all (?)

I've checked for MAC filtering and there's none
I've included the IP range as trsted in ZA, even though I don't think this was needed

there are other devices that can connect..so right now I'm very lost and have no idea why the AP doesn't like my notebook...

Are both on the same channel? And do both have the same SSID?

Workgroup name?

Did u configure the laptops network??

I thought channels gets selected automatically?
and yes SSID matches

the network settings are set to auto, so it should grab the ip and stuff itself

I've tried copying settings over from another notebook that works
but that didn't work...

Well put both on the same channel see if it works.

I would also give the notebook an ip not put it on auto, and put the ip of the AP under gateway / Primary DNS, and the DNS of the ISP under Alternate DNS server.

Disable ZA and then see if it works. If it does ZA isnt configured properly.

didn't think of changing the channel manually, but sadly that didn't help
IP set manually now, still doesn't work

..if only intel's manual diagnosis gives more info on the problem

Did u disable ZA to see if that was the prob?

The wireless version of ZA would probably be better. If you're not using Ethernet at all.

Dont know if u have to pay for it later tho.

still doesn't work

I might wait for a bit and see if I can get another notebook to try and connect to this weird AP

okay solved this problem..finally
thought I'll post here for those who need it later..

to solve this..I installed an old version of the wireless NIC driver
and now it works
the newest version wouldn't work
but looks like this old version works

now...dunno who to blame..intel or benq..um..
