Why a Pentium D? Why not a Core 2 Duo?

In history that is the highest overclock for a CPU over 100% of the stock clockspeed, although benchmarks sagest that its not faster than Intel core 2 Duo but faster than any AMD CPU

    Cedar Mill

The final revision of the Pentium 4 was Cedar Mill, released in early 2006. This was simply a straight shrink of the 600-series core to 65 nm, with no real feature additions. Cedar Mill had a lower heat output than Prescott, with a TDP of 86 W.

It has a 65 nm core and features a 31-stage pipeline (just like Prescott), 800 MT/s FSB, Intel 64, HyperThreading and Virtualization Technology. As with Prescott 2M, Cedar Mill also has 2 MiB of L2 cache. It was released as Pentium 6x1 and 6x3 (product code 80552) at frequencies from 3.0 GHz up to 3.6 GHz. None of the 6x1 range (631, 641, 651, and 661) has Virtualization Technology support. As of March 2007 it has not been possible to source 6x3 nor has Intel any records of this product line on their homepage.

    Overclocking record

In 2007, a frequency of 8.32 GHz was reached by an Italian overclocking team known as SFERA OC Team, using a Pentium 4 641 with a FSB of 520 MHz and a multiplier of 16. This is considered the highest clock frequency ever realized on a consumer CPU.

    Hence my question mark........

520 bus is not uncommon on tier 1 Mobo nowadays and a C2D wouldnt need the exotic cooling of the WR that the poster was referring to, which wouldnt have been the 2 cores
