Default trying to play a dvd causes system restart

I last watched a dvd on my pc about a week ago tho when I tried to play a dvd today (have tried power dvd & wmp11) or load a dvd disk through dvd shrink my computer restarts as if I've hit the reset button. It's definitly a software not a hardware hardware issue as the only physical change I've made recently is the removal of my x-fi sound card also dvd's work no prob (at about 4 frames a second of course) while in safe mode safe mode.

I've tried reading data off cds and dvds this works no problem.
Have checked for resource conflicts in the secondary ide channel (where the dvd drive is connected) and even switched to pio mode tho to no avail.
Also uninstalled the software and drivers for my sound card, the only other thing i can think of, I did swap the drive letters for my dvd drive and hard drive so that the dvd drive is F instead of E tho i can't see how this would have any effect.

System specs- Amdxp2800, 512 ram, nforce2 mobo, 6200agp graphics card, pioneer dvdrw drive, nforce on board audio, running winxp sp2.

If anyone can think of a possible solution so i can avoid having to reinstall windows that be great thanks!

Whats else is on the same IDE connection as this DVD?

Or is it by itself on whatever IDE connection??

If its on the same IDE connection as something else, did you jumper both of them properly?

Check to make sure that something is not overheating in the case (cpu, video card).
Life is about give and take.
Shame some people take take take.

Right mouse on my computer on the desktop (or press the windows key / pause key).

Then advanced tab / settings under startup and recovery.

Untick automatically restart if its ticked, then try another DVD.

See what comes on the screen.

You could also go to control panel / admin tools / event viewer.

Go through Application and system. Look for any X's or error entries.

If you see any about the time the system rebooted, dbl click the entry, highlight it then press ctrl-c, paste what it says here.

Or click on the link it gives you and see if it gives you any sites.

Alright, I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary in the event viewer tho I did manage to get a typical windows BSOD

    It referred to UDFS_FILE_SYSTEM

Ah ha, Regkill.sys I would say is the prob.

This belongs to DVD Region killer / AnyDVD, by the looks of it.

I would uninstall this / reinstall it. Or use something else.

Thanks for that speedy. I should've thought, I only just recently installed dvd region killer tho I've never had problems with it in the past. Ah well .. goes off in search for an alternative program
