Now that the All Blacks are among the minnows of world rugby it is time the RU dropped the pre kick-off haka. If they continue to try and look fearsome by performing the haka the opponents are likely to start laughing.

Never could see why they use that haka:

"Ka Mate" is a Māori haka composed by Te Rauparaha, war leader of the Ngāti Toa tribe of the North Island of New Zealand. Te Rauparaha composed Ka Mate after his lucky escape from pursuing Ngati Maniapoto and Waikato enemies. He had hidden from them in a food-storage pit, and climbed back into the light to be met by a chief friendly to him - Te Whareangi (the "hairy man").

Imo the Haka should to be retired.

pctek - that is one story. An alternative story is that a woman (I think it was the chief's wife) sat over the hole to conceal Te Rauparaha, and the hairy man is something altogether different from your explanation. I don't know which version is correct.

Note in the latter that the chief's wife Te Rangikoaea sat over the kumara pit where Te Rauparaha was hidden, but the explanation for "the hairy man" is uncertain. This site does not give the "unusual" explanation that I have heard, so maybe what I have been told was a joke that I did not get at the time.
