    my desk top icons appear to be on rubber bands and shoot back to what they think is their place when i shift them

    ...have you tried the following: right click on icon and hold down button while dragging the icon to desired position.Then left click 'move here'.

    right click on the screen, highlight 'Arrange ICONS' and if 'Auto Arrange' has a check make (tick) click on it to remove it. Them your icons will stay wherever you put them.

    Tip:
    Remove the rubber bands from your monitor, also the polystyrene that they hold in place.

    Tip:
    Twink is not an effective way of deleting mistakes in Word. Use an eraser instead.
