Default 2008 Olympics to use XP rather than Vista

Vista, wireless sidelined from core Olympic IT roster
August 08, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- BEIJING -- Microsoft Corp.'s newest operating system, Vista, has been relegated to waterboy status at the 2008 Olympic Games, while wireless networking won't even play a supporting role in Beijing.

I guess the proof is in the pudding.

For something the scale of the Olympics I would imagine that it would be the normal code of practice for the organiser to approach companies and suppliers for their services, that being said, Apple seems to want to remain in the realm of the home user/multimedia centre and designer fields rather than move into the "corporate space" despite a lot of corporates taking an increasing interest in Apple hardware and software as discussed in this article on CNN

You'd think that for something the scale of the Olympics, companies would approach the organizers because there are plenty of companies eager and willing to associate themselves with the Games.

Quite possibly, although I would imagine that the Olympics would probably fall outside the markets that Apple is in despite a large number of atheletes that wear iPods during training and warm up sessions.
From what I have seen, Apple mostly tends to associate itself with TV broadcasting (MacPro and FCP2 apps) and tends to go for product placement in certain movies and selected TV shows (the ones where the Apple logo is shown on the MacbBook rather than being hidden or discreetly blurred). Apple would be one of the few big companies that gets a lot of free publicity from web and word of mouth.

you ALWAYS say that whenever apple fails to get a foot in the door that they never planned on it

the truth is that if beijing was to go apple they would more than triple the IT costs
When it comes to computers there is a difference to what you need and what you want, the former being less than half the price of the latter.

Considering that the Olympics would probably fall into the corporate user category which is not Apple's area I wouldn't think Apple would be trying to get in there although the would be well set to provide a competitive set up for the broadcasting part with FCP2.
