Anyone know of software that can recognise handwritten text from a scanner (paper based)?

never heard of any. just remember that when a scanner is scanning, it is only looking at things like color changes and the pixel position. not really the content of the image.
I would be very surprised if such a piece of software did exist, and if it did, i would be rather interested to see how it works!

i think that you will find, that myscript only works when a user is 'writing' on an electronic paper, with a mouse, or pen or something.

I don't think it is able to take a scanned piece of paper, and convert it to text.
i could be wrong but ..... thats the conclusion i came to.

My memory stirs. I think that there is an OCR in XP or MS Office. Althou' godfather did come up with a better one. PJ

There are programs around that do scan text, so u can edit it.

Omnipage Pro is one of the better OCR programs around, but isnt free.

When u install this, it installs an entry in Office programs, so you can scan from within Word etc. So you can edit it later as well.

Some brother printers, and maybe others, also have an SE edition of an OCR program on the CD. Thats if its an MFC.

I think you'll find that OCR works by pattern recognition from scanned clean clear printed text on clean paper. Handwriting recognition works by tracking a stylus's movements, sometimes with pressure sensing. Palm PDAs "cheat" by getting the user to learn a way of writing symbols so the software doesn't have to learn the user's writing. A scanned handwritten page doesn't provide the information which makes machine reading easier. It might be possible, but it's not a trivial exercise.

No software could read my writing. If I can't, what chance has silicon.?
