Default IHUG ADSL keeps dropping out

a few weeks ago i was on an old 2MB plan.
my router dropped the connection a few times a month.

about 4 weeks ago i moved to a new plan, fast as my link can go.
now i get a 6mb connect but my connection drops a few times a day.

what can i do to improve my connection ? ,i don't mind a bit less speed.

I would suggest you ring and talk to iHug about the problem. I had the exact same problem with xtra.
Ring up and ask them to change the port you are on down at the exchange as it is faulty and you are getting disconnected often. They will probably try and tell you that it is your problem, but it obviously isn't.
Faulty ports at the exchange cause you have your connection randomly dropped - nothing you can do about that.
There is a small possibility though, does your modem/router ever get really hot? as this could be the cause. But i doubt it since it is only since you changed plans that you get the drop outs.
Just remember to be very firm with iHug about getting the port changed as this is the problem.
    Cheers

15 minutes talking to a helpdesk monkey......

he tells me that 5 drops a day is not too bad and he wont log a fault.
he tells me that my monitored alarm is the problem (had it for 2 years with ADSL and no problems)
he tells me it due to more users in my area.
he tells me that dropouts do happen and its no big deal.

I ask for a supervisor and he tells me that they dont have supervisors.
I ask for a mamager, he puts me on hold for 12 minutes.
he comes back to me and tells me that he has spoken to the manager and they recomend a line test/analizer for 24 hours.

    not very happy.

And yes, the "help desk" seems to be a lot less helpfull these days since vodafone took the reigns

Ok, very similar story to me. I have an alarm system in the house aswell, but this has nothing to do with it.
5 disconnections a day is NOT alright - it is complete and utter bullsh**!
Tell them, that you are tired of paying your hard-earned money for unreliable, faulty, pathetic, useless service, and if the problem isn't fixed within a week, you are changing ISP's.
I did that, and they imediatly started talking nicer, and had the problem solved within the week!
Dropouts are not caused from more users in the area. They are caused by their faulty ports down at the exchange. I have had many people complain about similar issues.
Be very firm with them, demand that you speak to manager/technical support. Demand that they analysis your line for 48 hours and observe the dropouts.
Demand that they fix the problem within a week.
and also, demand a re-fund for all the mucking around they have caused you.
I did all of the above, and got 3 months credit on my broadband account!
so yea. you just have to be very very firm!

Well seeing as the thread is 2-3 years old I would suggest that he either got sick of it and went to another ISP or got the issue fixed.
Might pay to check the date of the post before dredging up old things.

if you don't mind me pointing out, i think you are refering to the date that the member joined, not the date it was posted. The date this thread started was: Yesterday, 08:46 PM

It may pay to check the date of the thread start next time - not the date the member joined.

I told him that ADSL is a permanent connection to the internet and dropping 5 times a day is not very permanent,

he told my that ADSL is not a permanent connection and drops happen.

strange that the ADSL page of IHUG says "Broadband is fast internet that is always connected so you can get more out of the internet than ever before."
