Default No Disc for Windows Vista Home Premium.

I purchased a new HP Pavillion PC yesterday which runs Windows Vista Home Prem. There is no disc with the package!! I'm surprised, as all the previous pc's I've bought always had a XP disc or whatever!! What happens if it poops itself and I need to re-install?

This may be a stupid question, but I just wondered if this is normal.

    Thanks

No its not, you should have got the CD with the PC since you have paid for the software! Where did you buy it from? Give them a call!

It might after all the posts I have been reading on F1 about vista. I hope your hardware configurations is really good. Not that minimum requirements crap they keep saying.

    Hope this helps

HP havn't provided CD's for some time. The install files are on a hidden partition on the hard drive.

Personally I think this is a lousy policybut its a fact of life

It may be possible to save the data in case of HD failure

Thanks for the reply. I got it from DSE. I haven't got it running yet as I need to get a new adsl router!! My current one is not compatible. For the short time I had it running it looked really good. But then I'm not an expert!

    It is : Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 1066Mhz FSB)
    Memory: 1GB DDR2 533MHz (2 slots), upgradeable to 4GB
    Hard Drive: 250GB (7200 rpm)
Optical Drive: Dual layer DVD writer with LightScribe technology
Video: nVidia GeForce 7500LE 3D PCI-Express Graphics with TV-out and DVI capability port
Video Memory: up to 256MB DDR2 video memory

I think it will do for pretty basic needs..

    Cheers

    Hi Paulaj

Plug something like this in Google

How do I save HP install files -or - save HP installation files etc

Try other variations on this theme. I am sure you will find how to do this

    Good Luck

There should be a program under All Programs - HP that allows you to create the recovery discs.
You get the option of making a couple of DVDs or about 7 CDs.
Once you have created the recovery discs you can remove the recovery partition to get back the space used by it.

This is how it has been on the new HP laptops so I assume their PCs are similar.

Hopefully, BelarcAdviser works on Vista..get it and print out a copy to keep next to your birth certificate and marriage license. It is so much more than Magicjellybean or other programs that reveal secrets about your system.

It will be very valuable for when you destroy your system..even if you have Ghost or any other copy programs.

Notice I said: "When" you destroy your system. It's a given..you WILL eventually destroy it and need those licenses, keys and certificates numbers.
