Default NEC Versa Premium ram upgrade

    Hi,

Have a nec versa premium laptop that needs a ram upgrade.
It currently has 128 mb ram installed and by the looks of it, it only has the one slot for ram (thats what a quick search on the net and everest says)

So, will this mobo support a 512mb stick or is 256 the most it can take.
Next question is how do you access the ram slot. There appears to be no cover on the bottom to get to it through. Do i have to go in through the top?

Everest says it's a P3, 677mhz cpu. It also says that under My Computer.
(On the bottom it has a sticker that says its a P3,1ghz, 20gb hdd.)
Theres no model number to help identify it better.

If someone could tell me how to access the ram module in this laptop it would be a great help.

    Thanks.

I would say finding a ram chip old enough to fit this will be a mission and probably cost a lot

Is that the right sort of ram though?

    256mb, pc133mhz sodimm.
I rang the shop and gave them the spec's of the laptop and they said that it was the right ram and that they had it in stock.

Just having a look in everest again and it says under Motherboard/ CPU that the original Clock speed is/was 1000mhz. Then in the CPU type it says 667mhz.
Does this mean that the cpu is running at a slower speed than it should be running at?

If the power consumption is a linear function of the clock speed, you will get 1/3 better battery life. That's probably a good tradeoffl.

It might run at fuill speed when running off the mains, but all (?) fast laptops run at reduced speed on battery power. That can be turned off ... but it might be a Bad Idea.

    Missed that bit ...

Quite a few laptops hide the memory slots under the keyboard. Sometimes the keyboard comes out easily (look for slidable latches at the top or bottom of the KB); some need removal of the whole top panel. Don't try force. Hope for someone who knows that model, or see if Google will help ... "keyboard removal NEC Versa" or something like that, or variations of that search string. )

    I wouldn't call that a good price.
