newbie confused about FAT limitations

Hello,

I spent about 3 hours last night on the web, and then half of this morning as well, trying to find definitive answers to some questions on FAT limitations, im studying for the A+ cert, and i dont need what 'appears' to be contridictary info right now

i need some expert guidance, i need to get by this chapter and i cant spend another day in it, and on the web, searching for an answer that 'seems right' to me, im missing something here, and I know there must be other newbies out there scratching their heads on this as well

ok, before i get too wordy here and bore you to death....

Q: just what is the max file size for FAT16?, I see some places state 2GB - 1 byte, and then others state 4GB - 1 byte

Q: just what is the max volume size for FAT32?, I see some places state 2TB, and then others state 8TB

This is dependant on the operating system used as well.

Don't blame me. The usual few minutes in Google then sort the wheat from the chaff. Took me all of 20 minutes to find that info.

And heres a bit of info not required for your exams.

Old DOS games will install on FAT32 XP but not always on NTFS XP.

I'm guessing that's the cause of the error "An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which cannot be supported"
