Default can only fit 116 files on 1gb sd card

I am trying to put files onto this card for on my tungsten e2 and cant get it to allow more than 116 files (or 478mb). Message comes up with "cannot copy (file name) the directory or file cannot be created". I have reformatted the card (FAT) but the same problem keeps occurring. Can amyone help?

Are you sticking them all in the root folder - if so create a folder and copy the files into that.

Hi when I put the mp3's into a folder the softward on my palm wont recognise them or play them, so I have been just putting them straight onto the card.

I believe there is a limit of 512 entries in the root area, yep I know you've got less - but once you move away from the original 8.3 type of filename then they take up more than 1 entry each.
