    Default Mac or PC

OK This is it, showdown time. I think metla will probarbly win this by himself, but I just want to know how many of you are using, or would rather be using a mac and why.

    Just curious

Poll is invalid. You forgot Linux. Also the Gah option.

Please post a more appropriate poll.

Anyone that can afford to buy a PC can afford to buy a Mac. Apple doesn't target the ultra low end of the market, but the Mac mini is very reasonably priced and well within the price range most consumers are able to afford ($1,128 + monitor and keyboard).

For those in the market for a more powerful computer, if you custom configure a Dell with the same specifications (or as similar as I could find on their site) as the 20-inch iMac, the Dell ends up costing $700 more, couldn't be called aesthetically pleasing by any stretch of the imagination, takes up more space, lacks extras such as a webcam and lacks a Windows equivalent to Apple's iLife multimedia applications included free with all new Macs. At last year's WWDC Apple demonstrated a similar result with a Dell with the same specs as a Mac Pro. Then you may have to factor in buying anti-virus software which you won't need with a Mac etc.

So really, it comes down to buying whatever operating system you like best.

I doubt if all of my software would work on a Mac.
And I am satisfied with WinXP, so why bother to switch to a Mac, or even Vista?

    Nonsense.
If I choose the equivalent in a MAC it costs me heaps more.
Forget Dell, us techs talk real hardware.

Depends on whether your talking gaming or general computing.

No it doesn't. The issue is in regards to hardware and price.

About the only place a PC will beat a Mac on price and performance is in the cheapest end of the market and in the custom build end of the market (in NZ at least) In the medium to upper end of the market there is not the price difference that there used to be.

Also depends if pctek was referring to home machines, work stations or servers.

Afraid not, That $2800 mac on the NZ site is way under-specced.

Though as you say the Apple products are now much closer to PC's in price and performance then in the past, Though this is because they are nearly identical to PC's.
