To be honest, Unless you enjoy headaches then I suggest you buy a program.

What you want to do has three steps.

    Edit
    Encode
Author to DVD (this may include encoding thus negating step 2)

To start with I would sugest one of the Ulead DVD authoring programs that also have basic editing and encoding features, Trials can be downloaded from the Ulead site.

Alternativly you could buy a $40 firewire card that has a Ulead product bundled with it.

Or, Depending on what Version of Nero you have (you do have Nero don't you?) you may already have the capabilities to do whats required (did your TV card come with any software?).

Personally I only use Nero for its burning capabilities.

What format did you capture in?

Ah you're using the same tuner as me.

Except yours works with the program its meant to work with lol.

The PVR program. This thing doesn't even recognise the damn drivers, but it does work with WinDVR. I think this tuner is 1/2 screwed.

Anyway, have u tried what u recorded, with that Ulead program?

You may need Nerovision, but some of the plugins arent free. ie: The DVD one.

Thats the only program I use for Video / editing video.

That app should have basic editing features, (surely enough to remove the ads) and will encode,Author to DVD.

Sounds to me like your set to go.

I have the Winfast TV2000 XP Expert card, and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3. Had lots of hassle - and at the end of the day I couldn't synchronise the audio with the video when I edited out the ads! Ok when I just trimmed the video back and front.

All a bit frustrating, and not really and ideal product at the finish. I had hoped to take all 'Himself's' videos and put them on DVD. The project was only partly successful regretably.
Now-if I could just remember where I left my brain...

I was frustrated for years by similar problems with every video editing program I tried. I don't know how many times I've spent hours editing video only to have the program crash when it came to produce the output file and losing all my effort.

Then Sony released a $100 version of Vegas, and all I can say is WOW!!!

It works, it does it all, it lets you add stills, sounds, different formats, titles, cool fades and special effects, etc. and easily, once you get the concepts of how it works, which is mostly drag and drop.

The main thing, it never crashes, and I can throw my videos quickly and easily, or I can get really involved and create almost anything. It also doesn't modify the original clips or source material.

It will automatically encode a whole mini-dv and divide it into scenes for editing.

One easy trick I use is to run 2 copies of Vegas at the same time. Then you can easily select and copy the portion of a clip you want in Vegas 1 and paste it into your project in Vegas 2.

Anyway, you may not have been thinking about spending $100, but a free editing program, as well as most others costing hundreds, is only going to leave you frustrated and unable to do what you planned--believe me--I've been there, done that.

With all the time it would take to do so, why not just buy the Shrek2 DVD?? It's probably in the $20 Warehouse bin by now anyway.

    $99 to $120 bucks US.

The consumer edition has most of the features that were previously only available in the pro version--it's definitely a bargain.
