    Default The Auckland Hum

Back in October i think there were stories about a 'hum' which was insanely bothersome to some people in Auckland. Others couldn't hear it.

A subject in the Pressf1 forum sparked me to wonder what ever happened with that?

A quick google and the results were..it's a low frequency hum.

But what was/is the cause? is it still going or was it transient? has it always been there and the media reports were just them picking up on something, and now dropping it?

[did a few keyword searches on these forums, didn't find anything; if there's a thread on this besides http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthr...=strange+noise point me to it pls]

Hmm. Or Humm. Maybe the answer. maybe not.

I have a relative with 'normal' tinitus and it certainly is annoying and weird. Might also explain the daily transient nature.

But has this been reported before in Auck to the degree it was? was the reporting merely a media thing of a phenomena always here (in or out of head)? ie i'm wondering if the reporting reported anything new, or it was just a story always there that briefly captured the news but has been there for ages locally.

I was also wondering pipes. mr google suggests gas & water pipes make noise. Has there been any analysis of the areas in which the people who report the noises with whatever is running underneath them? (this has been suggested as a reason, but discarded on opinion)

See, that's the kind of thing I was after. of course that analysis won't be undertaken if no-one thinks there is any validity to the claims. But wouldn't it be nice to know?

They (meaning whoever was looking into it) declared (on TV no less) that it was caused by the electricty feed, they also claimed to have captured it at one address and it was all on the right frequency yadda yadda yadda.

Tinnitus isn't really a hum. According to someone who has it, its like cicadas in your head.

My sons girlfriend, while down here, commented it was nice not to have that hum.....she wasn't referring to this mystery hum.......she said the background traffic hum.

What else can it be but a hum? If you want the words, here they are.
