    Default Towel efficiency

As anyone noticed how new towels don't seem to dry one as well as older ones?

Yes, always been that way, same with tea-towels. Washing them all before their first use helps.

Soak the towels in cold water overnight which should help.

New towels always seem to need a few washes before they are as absorbant as older ones, especially cheap ones, but the really good quality Egyptian cotton towels are great. Arbuckles have some good tips on caring for towels and they mention something I have heard before but not tried - soaking in salt. They also recommend not using fabric softener.

Surely fatuous replies suggest that the latter may apply to the sender?

I've got some lovely Egyptian cotton towels that have been washed heaps of times now, soaked in Napisan, soaked in Vinegar and water, soaked in really hot water (not all at the same time mind you!) without any luck. They feel soft etc, but I might as well try to dry myself with a plastic bag all the good it has done.
