    Default Broadband speeds

Looking at various Company plans for Broadband. Some quote "up to 50x faster" than dialup and some say "256d/l ,128u/l.My dialup is so variable (56k modem) Don't know what 50x is equivalent to. I realise that all speeds quoted are theoretical maximums. Can someone please enlighten me.

I think many ISP's mean 2mb/s by 50x, and 3.5mb/s by 80x, whether you can reach the maximum speeds is another thing.
