Default Off Topic - What engine do I have?

Someone here must know a bit about cars..

Can anyone tell me what kind of engine a 1991 Mitsi Lancer GTI would have?

    It's an 1800, non-turbo, 5-speed manual.. If that helps.

Or if anyone can tell me what kind of engine I could put it one to replace the old one?

    Cheers.

Hi, even though you have labelled your thread off-topic you have posted it into the PressF1 forum for computer related questions. I have moved it to the off-topic Chat forum.

It "should" be a 4G67 1836cc DOHC 16 valve EFI

You would be looking for trouble to do a cross transplant unless you also do the engine management system as well.

The later 1992 model used a 4G93 1834cc engine, which continued right through to 2002.
No idea of the physical differences though.

    Oh, heh.

Is there anything on the actual engine that'll confirm or identify the model?

    It's front wheel drive..

I found out about the mitsi-tappet curse.. The loud way.

I have to figure out what to do with it.

Sell it? Do drifting with it? Tune it for street racing?

I want to keep it, it's a tidy car.. Had a little bit of work done to it, some nice gadgets put in (stock outside)..

I just don't like the noise.. I do drive it hard now and then and it just worries me.. A friend suggested I used it as a trade-in for a GSR or and EVO.. But there are lots of them around, I havn't seen many GTIs in Chch.

Do you think it'll have value over the years with Jap car? American Musles do and exotics. It'll take a long time to become a museum product. That's a hard work to wait over the years.
