    Default Download Inside NZ

If you download from a nz site, is it part of your download allowance ? Or is it all you can eat

Depends on the ISP and plan you are with.
Some .nz sites can be off-shore anyway and due to the way some ISPs/Telecos exchange data with each other, the traffic may be moving off-shore before going back to a nz-based site.

Very true. It's hard to know which websites are counted as national and which are counted as international. I've downloaded demos (CoD2, Quake4) from Yahoo Games (I think that's what it's called), and it counted as national traffic (I'm with Xnet, which is unlimited for national traffic).

I had this "dicussion" with Telecom in the very early days of broadband, the result being that it's caveat emptor.

There simply is no easy way to tell what the international or national content will be, many assumed local are not and vice versa.

Just because it has a .nz country domain on the site means nothing whatever.

I rang xtra, they make no distinction between the two.

I'm looking for a different ISP. Orcon's offering looks ok

Go with Orcon. Don't quote me on it but I think it's unlimited and also u can go with their accelerator plan.

I'm probably going with ihug, they have a better toll call deal. orcon would cost $30 for 2 hours to the uk against ihugs $5
They got a 20 20 gb plan for the same money as telecoms 10. 30gb more

We use Orcon and have all I can eat for $49.95. 256/128.
I could change this for a 2 MBit connection but with data cap.
No difference with national or international here.

I think you will not get a connection with Orcon as in all you can eat anymore.

And we can't get Orcon to give us free web hosting as it used to be.

Why not shop around ISPs and get the best plan that works for you?
