Default Rootkits Are Now Headed To Your BIOS

The Register has a rather nasty little problem it wants the world to know:

any pc that has bios update from windows could be an easy target. a lot of other bios's have built in protection. on my own you have to turn of the protection and you have to hit a key to continue when its in that state.

but as companys make complex things o so user friendly sicurity often goes out the window.

I always thought being able to fiddle with low level settings/firmware from within windows was stupid, come to think of it, I don't even like switch/jumperless boards, or at least the option.

I just feel that there is something inherently more solid about killing something by shorting connectors than attempting to do it with software.
