Look for a new one. There are usually quite a few around the $1000 mark. As the fashions changes, the last few of a model are usually marked down. Try Disk Smith Electronics, and other retailers. Especially with laptops, guarantees are worth having.

There are always (non trademe, reali life) auctions too if you don't want to buy a new one.

Also, Dell have an Inspiron 1300 on their site for NZ$1198 if you don't mind paying a little extra - though you get a warranty and some support, which is important. I don't think thats a bad price for a widescreen laptop, either, though I have no opinions on Dell themselves as I have never owned one.

    Go for the Asus.

Before anyone commented, some one should have asked him what he plans to use this laptop for.

If its a bit of MS Office and browsing then $1000-1500 mark will be fine.

If its even "Some" mid ranged gaming as well then the notbooks listed above won't cut the mustard with those pussy IGPU's.
