Download a program called "Everest Home Edition", which will tell you exactly what model and brand of hardware you have, plus all the technical details.

There are 3 free ones I know of, and I think Everest is the better of them for layout and finding info. But for your playing pleasure, have a look at

BUT, for an older computer like Zahmads, then AIDA16 is even better really, as it can be run from a dos boot floppy, and you dont have to install the program into Windows.

After all once you know what you've got, the program isnt needed any more, a Windows based program is just wasting hard drive space.

Download aida16en_212.zip and unzip the file somewhere. Then copy just aida.exe (496kB) to a Win98 dos boot floppy or to a boot CD, don't bother with the other files.

Then after booting from the floppy, at the A:/> prompt type aida then [enter].

The program will run and take a little while to detect all the hardware.

Then use the page down key to scroll through the pages of information.

It will detect and list most hardware like cpu, memory, video cards, sound cards/chips, monitor, hard drives etc etc.

The beauty of aida16 is it can be used to find out whats in a computer that doesn't have an OS loaded.

Unfortunately it is no longer supported so it may not necessarily detect all newer hardwares.
