Im currently with xtra, and they suck, lots of people ahve been telling me that ihug is the best, is it true? is there a better isp in NZ?
I use it for playing Counter Strike, and dowloading, im a pretty heavy user...and share conneciton with flatmates...
does anyone have any suggestions, i think its time to change, but i've got no idea about BB in NZ...

In terms of speed and data cap, they seem to be the best. I'm switching over from Xtra now, because I can get 8x the speed, and 7x the data cap, at the same price I'm paying for Xtra.

If only an ISP would bring back the unlimited national traffic plans - they would be awesome for playing games because the latency is too high to play on overseas servers, but there is nothing wrong with NZ servers.

Yes ihug is the best i ever used. at least, its speed quality is much better than xtra. i have one at home, and it's sharing with 3 other roomates, the speed never junk.
my recommend, if you are a really big downloader than change to ihug.

Just visited Ihug's website and their broadband seems to be impressive. I'm with xtra currently and looks like changing over to Ihug is a good choice.

Rang Ihug just now to enquire about this matter and was told that they will charge me $99.00 connection fee for changing over. This 'connection fee' deters me from joining them, though.

Rang Ihug again to reconfirm the 'connection fee'. This time I was told that there is no connection fee and on top of that I'll get a free modem as well - because I'm a new Ihug customer!

What's this all about? Seems everyone is telling a different story.

I doubt there's a lot of difference between the mainstream providers. But I reckon there's a difference depending what plan you're on.

For example, until recently I was on Orcon's Bitstream plan - unlimited bandwidth at 256k down, 128k up, and it was quite delightful, with just a very few temporary outtages.

Now I'm with Xtra on their 10gig plan, 2Mb down, 128k up, and although the download speed is impressively noticeable, about 1 in 10 web pages won't load at the first attempt, ie they time out. A simple re-click gets the page, but it's a weird problem I never experienced before.
Bugger the cancer. I'm suffering from terminal inertia.
