BIOS asking for a unexistant password?

I've always accessed my bios doing delete on startup screen, it was a while since I tryed to access my bios, I just tryed and for the first time ever it asked me for a password which I obviously didn't set nor is it anyone in my household. I need to access it to start up my hyperthreading and it won't let me because I don't have the password required.

Is there any way I can access it without it involving risking to lose my current data. Maybe a way to reset it or remove it.

Try removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard for a min then replace it.

If you can get into the BIOS then, it'll have to be re-configured again.

Is XP installed, or are you enabling HT before or after XP has been installed?

If u use 2000 or XP?

Ah ok. Yer it's better to enable HT before u install XP.

HT doesnt always work AFTER XP has been installed.

Since XP has to install the right HAL file, to match the system/CPU beforehand.

Check your motherboard manual. There is normally a jumper that can be used to reset the BIOS.
You may have trouble if HT was not active when the OS was installed for reasons already metioned.
