Default How to Remove the digiRAMA Online Store in WMP10

I use Windows Media Player 10, I have no problems with it.

In the last couple of days this digiRAMA Online Store thing just appeared on the tool bar of WMP10

Here is a small screen shot of it - http://sal.neoburn.net/imagef1/files/digirama.jpg

I never asked for it to install, it just appeared. I find it annoying, it looks ugly with that stupid white box and 3 green dots in it. Its basically a form of forced advertising.

I want to know if anyone else has it and have they gotten rid of it?

I was only able to get rid of it by blocking it via the hosts file (C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for XP) with the following -
    Code:
    0.0.0.0 www.digirama.co.nz
This way you can still access digirama.co.nz but block it from opening within WMP10.

Thanks, that stopped it from showing up.
You shouldn't have edit system files to block it though, it should be able to be deleted with ease. Sadly we don't live in a perfect world.

Use a real media player. Prevention is better than the cure.

    Yes ... I've got it.
If you read the Media Player Privacy statement, it allows Online Stores.
"Windows Media Player enables you to access and enjoy music and video from the Internet, both on your personal computer and on a wide variety of portable media players. Windows Media Player provides easy access to features provided by Internet-based online stores, many of which are provided by third parties (that is, companies other than Microsoft)."
    and
"Windows Media Player does not request contact information such as your name, address, or phone number. However, there are occasions when Windows Media Player transmits unique, computer-specific information across the Internet, either to Microsoft or to an online store. Features that do this are described in this privacy statement. In addition, the software provided by an online store may collect and transmit personal information to that store; this would be described in the privacy statement for the online store."

Which is a worry as far as I am concerned :-(
You should ALWAYS have the option to choose or refuse what you connect to and MicroSoft should have learnt this by now.

You DO have a choice. Microsoft does not force you to purchase content from digirama. BTW at least you can buy music there if you choose, unlike other media players which have no options for legitmately purchasing music in NZ.

Don't worry about digirama, if you don't want to go to the site and purchase music just forget it is there.
