I run Windows 98 2nd edition. When I start up my computer everything goes well, all the programs are loaded and icons minimized on the toolbar below. But then in 5 or so seconds everything freezes - can't the mouse and keyboard same. Can't even do "Alt Ctrl Delelte" - what's causing this problem? How do I fix it?

Did you install something before it happened?
Boot into safemode (Press F8 on boot) and see if theres a problem with any hardware in Device Mnagaer, or remove what software you recently added.
I'd do a spyware check too while you're in safemode.

Try starting in "Safe Mode" (use the F8 key to get the menu for that). It might be lengthily looking for network type things which don't exist.

This may sound like a dumb question, but do you have antivirus software on the pc and is it up to date? How much free disk space have you got left?

Yes - AVG antivirus and it's all up to date as of last night. Hard-drive (20GB) is only 1/4 full.
