Need a Hand here

Ok here's the deal. A PC Im workin on has a virus or bad malware, probably NS_3 Yippie!!!Any way I ran a Diag and found that thier HD is damaged too. So I started a data backup but couldt read the data they needed because it was in an Admin folder. So of course I got the "Access denied" error. I took the HD out put it in an enclosure and hooked it up to my laptop. I can now access the admin folder and see the files and such but cant read, open, the data:
"Document or path is not valid"
Check file permissions for document or drive".
not sure what to do with this. Any help would be appreciated!

Highlight the folders, or whatever youre trying to read / properties. Might be one of the options, in properties that need changing.

What kind of files are u trying to open/read? Documents?

They are probably corrupted.

You could try to take ownership or use a data recovery program

call me suspicious, but do we know indymedic? how do we know he isn't trying to get into someone elses computer in an unauthorised fashion, as it were?

Well it sounds to me that he has physical access to the machine and unless you are encrypting your data, then all bets are off.

I regularly at work have to reset unknown admin passwords and move data around networks, external drives etc. If only because people mysteriously leave their office when you arrive and you need their password to log back in to test that something works under their user account.

At the other of the scale are the people with the yellow sticky with the password written on them

Encrypt your files (although sticking a bios password on and a large padlock on the case is also effective ... somewhat).

AHHH You caught me red handed TheOther!! Seriously though, Im legit.
I was thinking the data may be corrupted too. Yes I am trying to backup some documents and pictures. I can save all the Data , just can't open from my comp."Access Denied". I figure I'll just go ahead and get things going and reformat her HD or may have to replace it. OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the damn invertor just went out!!!!!!
