I want a fast Computer I would like a fax a dvd burner I don't download much just the odd game or utility Only play simple games. I want to watch TV on it and I would like a 19" lcd.

Just want it to be fast for surfing. I use Word a lot and play a wee bit with digital Photo's.

Well all u need for a fax is a faxmodem if u dont want a standalone fax.

XP has a fax program as part of it. It maybe good enough. Umm getting a fast PC doesnt mean you'll get fast surfing.

You'll need broadband, wireless, or something if you want to download faster than 56k.

Will you be getting another version of XP, besides the one u have. Since you're meant to get XP for each PC?

Not too sure which LCD you wld get. Some do have tuners in them. Depends on how much u want to spend on the LCD. And whether u want to record programs off the tuner, which I think u cant do, if its an LCD with built in tuner.

And whether u want a P4 or AMD 32 or 64 system as well. And DVD burners are pretty cheap these days. Depends on whether u want a normal DVD burner, or a dual layer burner.

And whether you want a system as is, or whether u want to make it yourself.

well a good 19" LCD with 8 ms refresh rate could cost about $700 to $1000 eg

    http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=337202

or maybe a 17" would do [ about the same size image as a 19" CRT ] for only $500 http://www.ascent.co.nz/mn-product-spec.asp?pid=336528

would leave a few spare $$ for the fast 'puter ...

as for 'fast for surfing' .......well any old 233mhz will be a damn sight faster, (FAST !) than a P4 3.0ghz if you have jetstream on the 233 and a modem on the P4.............

True, it is. The whole forum is like that. There were a few proper suggestions though.
The Ascent link here is good to start - go to the PCBuilder tab on their website, start with one of their pre-chosen systems, and amend the components until it fits the budget and taste in brands etc.

Well the person on that who suggested a 120Gb hard drive did not look very hard at what was needed. Lots of word and some digital photos - why would that size of hard drive be needed ??? Frossy seems to have done the best thing by switching his/her query to PressF1 (or am I overlooking something ?)
