Mine went PHzzzt pop when I got a wee leak in the roof, right over the monitor. It had that nasty dead electonic smell about it too.
I took it down to the local TV/Radio/Computer repair shop for them to have peek inside. A day or 3 later I had it back good as newish, been going strong ever since![]()
Buy cheap and nasty,You get cheap and nasty,....as far as getting them repaired, I personally don't even look at monitors, its far more worthwhile just replacing em with another second hand unit that works.

anyway, for finding a good shop, word of mouth is best. i don't see how trial and error could work relatively efficantly, since you've only got 1 bung monitor. maybe some people from your part of the country can give some recommendations
Wouldn't that make it like, black and white and 12" or something??

Don't be daft. I still have my first computer which is now 11 years old and the monitor is in colour even if it is a tiny 15" job.Originally Posted by george12

My observations of heaps of computer monitors put out for rubbish, have lead me to a conclusion that your average 17" monitor has a life of no more than 4 years.
My Macrocom monitor died after 3 1/2 yrs it was made in Nationalist China.
I repaced it with a 19" crt from DSE for 299 Baileys.
If you got it repaired it might last another year or it might not.
LCD screens are still too expensive and they have reliability problems.

So's mine Ed - 1993, 75Hz/1024x786. I can even get it to do 87Hz/800x600, but that's too small for me (15in monitor).Originally Posted by Edward
