it seems that when a users gets banded from the forum they simply make a new account.

is there a way that we can stop this from happening?
make it so you can only sign up from a .nz email address?
make it so you have to email in a scan of your thumb print??

Like most of the Internet it has to rely on trust. There will always be a proportion of immature or sociopathic individuals. They are best ignored where possible.

Scaned and emailed is probally the best as photos are hard to take of your thumb print.

it seems to happen all too frequently - although as BB says, if the banned member wants to come back and behave themselves then there shouldn't be a problem. But if they keep getting banned (their behaviour, spelling, grammer and sentence structure usually give the serial offenders away), then you would think that after multiple bans they would get the message.

that's an idea to get around the throw-away e-mail addresses some members use although there were some posts recently from overseas users - there was an Italian guy looking for an ISP or something as well as a post from an Aussie. It may also be a bit hard on kiwis with international e-mail addresses so I'm not sure if that is the answer.

This is an issue but you can usually tell the genuine new members from their first post. Just take a look at the tone of the two new posters in the thread that was just locked.

Best thing to do is sit back, grab a beer (or a bourbon), watch the thread implode, wait for the dust to settle and rest assured that in a Darwinian sort of way, the moderators usually win.

I live in the REAL world. The way people behave on this forum is the same as out here. People will be People, no matter what. We may not appreciate this behavior, but what can one do about it? Ignore it & hope it goes away? Yes I am old fashioned about good manners, the old saw "Manners Maketh Man/Woman" is very true. Surely all it would take is a little more tolerance to others, Not to be so quick to criticise, (It quickly comes back at you), It only inflames a situation. PJ
