Default CD re-writable not being read by drive

An Imation CD-RW is not being read by neither my DVD nor my CD-RW drive anymore, and that's very strange.
There's not a scratch on the surface of the CD and so far Iv'e written data to it and erased data from it without any trouble.

I recently threw a CD-RW away after I tried it on a handful of different machines and it wasn't being read and the CD had been erased/written to countless of times, so I threw it away. But this one is virtually new, so I find it very strange why all of a sudden I can't use it anymore.

Is there any software that can help perhaps?

    1. How old is the computer and/or the drives?

    2. What speed did you burn?

    3. What OS are you using? Also what Burning software are you using?

I bought a pack of 20 Imation CD-RW from Dick Smiths recently & only 3 / 20 would work with my Ricoh CDRW & my MSI DVD Writer
    Aback they are goin'
Also bought a 50pk printable CDR's & only 20 of them worked, the last 50 I bought were great
So it's back to the good old Transonic cheapies for me

Computer and drives are almost 2 years old. I run XP Pro and use one of the latest Nero versions. I always burn at 8x, though at school Iv'e sometimes burned at maximum speed when simply right-clicking and "Write the files to CD", I think you know what I'm talking about.

For CD-R's I usually use Transonic, mainly coz they are the cheapest around I believe, but I haven't seen any CD-RWs. Do you any other brands apart from Imation that have CD-RWs?? I honestly thought Imation were the best around, so it really stinks that so many seem to screw up.

CD-RW are more of an art than a science.

I would never use them by choice, just too unreliable.

Huge failure rate for data stored on them in my experience. Just not worth it with the price of CD-R now.

I have seen them fail after one write.

Oh, I didn't know that, so it's not just the Imation series huh?
I download a lot of stuff at school, and need to burn something to CD virtually every day. I thought with a CD-RW it would be a simple case of burning, erasing, burning etc. Guess not. Seems I'm gonna have to go through stacks of CD-Rs, with data on it I will probably never need again after copying it to my hard-drive at home.
Wish I could afford a pen-drive with MUCH more storage capacity.

...just wondering , are DVD-RW [ or +RW] any more reliable in peoples experience than CD-RW ie have things improved , or is DVD-RAM the way to go for multiple re-writing , Mike
