OT: What does the "recall" button on the phone do?

I've always been curious of this but never tried it. I've noticed the "recall" button on most phones but don't know what it does. I heard a story of someone getting banned from runescape (online game) because he paid using a toll number, and someone pressed the recall button, ending up costing the company that runs runescape $70, or so I'm told. What exactly does the button do?

If you have call-waiting, pressing recall will switch between calls. If you work in a place with an internal phone system, you can often press recall to dial another extension for forwarding calls etc.

the recall button does exactly what the name says.
it re dials the last number dialed.

Uh, that would be the redial button, not the recall button

whenever i press it it erases any number stored in the recall memory and "re-starts" the phone. pressing it while talking cuts you off.

Fine then it recalls the last number called?

Recall should do the same as a "hook flash", which is the equivalent of a short (~700 mS) "hang-up and pick-up".

It signals a PABX (or similar services enabled on your phone line) to perform the appropriate action. In the case of a PABX it allows a transfer of a call etc.

hmmm.......I just pressed mine and it gave me visions of secret caverns below the surface of mars,dusgruntled mine workers,mutants and machines left behind by an anciant civilsation for terraforrming the planet.


Looking closely though it apears to be a Total Recall button.
