Default Start Menu is off screen

I run XP Professional and as the programs list has grown, it's now off the screen and some items cannot be reached unless I open it up in an explorer window or increase the screen resolution which is a reasonable workaround.

I was wondering however if there was another simpler solution other than reorganising the menu into folders etc. which is what I plan to do if there is no other solution.

    Thanks,
    Balraj

    Hi Blaraj,

    Welcome to PressF1 :-)

You might want to try a few things here, because Im not 100% sure on what part of the Programs List you mean. Do you mean the "Recently Accessed Apps" and the ones above it, or do you mean the All Programs menu?

    Either way, try this:
Right-click on your Taskbar and click Properties
Click on the Start Menu tab up the top of the new window
    Click on Customise
Now, you can adjust the number of "Recent Programs" here, 5-6 is usually a good number
Next, click on the Advanced Tab up the top
Now, scroll down the list 'til just below half way and you'll see "Scroll Programs", make sure its ticked

Click Ok, Ok, and see if its made a difference

    Cheers

    Chill.

enable personlised menu's and it will hide your least used programs.

Yes, this has worked. I remember looking through these options but must have missed the scroll option! Many thanks.

Metla, this sounds like an interesting option. However, I cannot find anything about personalised menus in the XP Help or in the Control Panel - is it a switch that needs to be set somewhere or a registry tweak?

i always found personalised menus to be a right pain in the neck.

you might be better off trying to sub-group your programs, so the menu structure is not so flat....
ie create groups for games, office, system utilities, etc. and shift your programs on the start menu into them
