Default ATI Radeon 9600XT or GeForce FX5700???

About to buy a new Graphics card, just wonder if I should get either a:

    I) PowerColor ATI Radeon 9600XT Bravo Edition( 500/680MHz ), 128MB 128-bit DDR, AGP 8X, CRT+DVI-I+S-Video out; or a
II) Leadtek WinFast GeForce FX5700 (A360TD 256MB MyVIVO), 256MB DDR, MyVIVO

Any ideas would be appreciated ?:|

With reference to Metla's earlier post re ATI vs Nvidia many of us are a little biased in our recommendations regarding video cards (and cpu's etc). Personally I would run the Radeon, in fact I was looking at purchasing a 9600XT recently but then decided to stump up the extra cash for the 9800 pro. You won't notice any difference with the 256MB on the FX5700 vs the 128MB on the 9600XT so that shouldn't be an issue.

The Radeon 9600XT runs cool and quiet and great performance for the price, definitely my pick.

    Good luck

To get a Nvidia card to match the performance of the 9600XT, you would have to get at least a 5700 Ultra.

And I'm not too sure why you want to get a more expensive Powercolor 9600XT. I'm not sure Powercolor make the best 9600xt either. You can get a Gigabyte 9600XT (still very respectable) for only $312 at Ascent. Why pay an extra $100 more?

Also I saw a article at Anandtech about the 5700 and 9600 series, and it said that the Gigabyte card was the fastest of the 9600XTs. I'll have a look for it...

    Vendor Graphics Card Roundup

Look back through the article and you'll see the test setups etc.

FWIW my previous card was a Powercolor Geforce2 and it was crap. Now I'm not saying all Powercolor cards are crap, just from my experience the build quality was not the best. Mind you I bought that card a few years ago now and we all know how quickly technology changes.

I've been a fan of the Gigabyte mainboards, bought one for my latest PC build and also the Gigabyte 9800 Pro....couldn't be happier with the system, rock solid straight out of the box.

The card listed above is actually the Powercolour 9600XT Bravo which is one of the fastest 9600XT's on the market. This becuase it has faster ram. E.g 680mhz as opposed to the stock 600mhz. That card will clean house againist any Gigabyte card(gigabyte cards run at stock), and will totally destroy the FX5700 Ultra

Really, if you are looking at a 9600XT they are all going to perform fairly close to each other. Whether one manufacturers card is one or two frames faster than another is not going to be detectable by your eyes (only benchmarks). Just make sure you check out the warranty offered and get the best support you can for your money.

Certainly for the price the 9600XT kicks butt, no question.

go for the 9600XT, or, get a 5700 Ultra (but i'd still go for the XT over the Ultra)

I guess thats a big difference then. But would you pay $400 odd for that card or spend a few more dollars and get a 9700pro or a 9800pro??
