    Default slow connection

My 6 year old computer has suddenly decelerated from about 4-5kbs to 300 bps when downloading from the internet. How can I fix this while still using dialup? I have AVG and Zone Alarm but am not confident I don't have a virus as the computer has done a few odd things such as losing passwords and files trying to close which I hadn't opened.
I scan the whole system on a 2 daily basis and update AVg 2 daily also.

Also my C: drive (1.95gig containing the O/S and program files) is full - but I am reluctant to dump anything from there incase I dump anything important - while my D: (2gig all my documents and files and backup) drive is almost empty.
will making more space in the C: drive speed up the computer? How can I achieve this?
    Thanks guys,
    Robc

Your full disk is probably a major part of the speed problem.
A quick way to get some space is to make the OS use the other disk for its swap file. This is the "virtual memory" which will probably be a "hidden" file in C:\ . Try using the "show hidden and system files" option.

Try the forum's FAQ on Computer Maintenance and if no improvement try the Spyware FAQ.

The links may take a little while to load so be patient.

    try the following
    1. see if there is any noise in the line, listen for a 'TICK' noise, if there is get the fixed
    2. delete some stuff on that drive, or back it up on a cdr
    3. make a spybot scan for any spyware etc
    4.maybe slow the modem down?

Umm that's electric fence noise usually, not something you can race out and fix.
