    Default Wi-Fi network problems

Trouble shooting wifi network for friend. It's late. Doesn't let me go over. Network training skills bring me to this stage:

WiFi software can detect both computers and and join the network created by another computer. (no acess point needed, two computers - ad hoc mode). So the signal strength and everything comes up. Go to TCP settings, all in order (subnet, etc good). Cannot ping the other comp, which is strange, because of the connection status being ok, and the IP setting being ok.

    Any ideas?

The cards are apparantly Belkin 54Mbps 802.11 g v.1111au, tho im not there to tell :-s

Check for any personal firewall installed on either machine, or XP's built in personal firewall?

That's a good idea, but would it really stop a ping? I didn't think it was that good. Cheers, any more ideas anyone?

Make sure the Wi-Fi SSID and any encryption that might be enabled is the same on both PC's wi-fi card settings.
