Whats a simple, basic HTML editor with a built-in preview function?
Don't need WYSIWYG or heaps of features.
Preferably open-source or freeware.

Mozilla web browser has a pretty good composer built in. It is free, open source, and WYSIWYG if you need it, but has a good source editor, javascript checker, and preview.
plus, on top of all that it is a great browser too.
Get it at http://www.mozilla.org
it is about 12Mb.
I use First Page 2000 from http://www.evrsoft.com/
Nice easy to use html editor with preview, coloured tags (so you can see what is what) and built in java script / image editors.

No...
I want something really small and basic (unbloated), just basic stuff like syntax highlighting with a built-in html preview function.
I will continue searching the net with google ;-)

A few come to my mind but I don't think you are going to get minimum bloat with an HTML preveiw function built in. My favorite is 1stPage2000 as well but others that I've tried are acehtml5free, MetaPad and NoteTab Light. All are free but only the first one includes the preview as far as I can remember.
Thanx
am checking out acehtml5free
Forrest.
And you could try this.....

....to get Arachnophila Website Developer. You write the code but it checks it for you, lots of nifty functions, easy to use.
